maker's clean care guide

Maker's Cleaning Cloths

Maker's Cleaning Cloths will be one of the very best cleaning tools you'll ever come across, and can last for up to 500 washes if cared for properly.

Do:

  • Wash prior to first use, colour runoff is likely for the first few uses.
  • Rinse cloths to remove debris and dirt before laundering.
  • Separate from other laundry items.
  • Use regular laundry detergent with NO additives (fabric softener, etc.).
  • Launder with cold water (why don't we recommend using hot water?).
  • Optionally, add a cup of vinegar to the 'fabric softener' compartment in your washing machine to help soften the cloths.
  • Tumble dry on low or no heat (we prefer low as static cling helps attract dust).

Don't:

  • Use bleach, fabric softener, or any other additives when laundering.
  • Use dryer sheets when tumble drying.
  • Do not iron!
  • Use cloths to clean up excessive grease spills, wax, paint, solvents, liquid silicone, bleach, or polish.

Melissa's Best Practices

Light-duty use

After each light-duty cleaning (e.g. cleaning your kitchen counters), rinse the cloth with dish soap and water to remove debris and any staining (such as fruit juice). Always rinse soap out well and hang your cloths to air dry between uses.

Heavy-duty use

After heavy cleaning such as a day’s worth of dusting, or after a few light-duty uses, it’s time to wash the cloth. You want to have clean cloths to avoid them being stiff, unable to absorb and clean, and of course to avoid potential scratching from stiffness or streaking from dirt residue.

With care, a clean surface is all your cloths will leave behind.
